Biography
Seamus McGarvey is an Irish cinematographer born on 29 June 1967 in Armagh, Northern Ireland. He began his career as a stills photographer before studying at the University of Westminster in London, graduating in 1988. He initially worked on short films and documentaries.
McGarvey is known for his collaborations with directors including Joe Wright on Atonement (2007) and Anna Karenina (2012), for which he received Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography. His other credits include The Avengers (2012), Nocturnal Animals (2016), The Greatest Showman (2017), Black Mirror (2016 episode "Nosedive"), Die My Love (2025) and the miniseries Mussolini: Son of the Century (2024). He has also received BAFTA nominations and other awards for his work.
