Biography
Victor Young was an American composer, arranger, violinist and conductor. He studied violin at the Warsaw Conservatory and later in Paris, and began his career as a concert violinist before moving into popular music, radio and film scoring.
Young scored more than 300 films, many for Paramount Pictures. Among his best-known scores are those for Shane (1953), The Quiet Man (1952), Around the World in 80 Days (1956), Johnny Guitar (1954), Rio Grande (1950), Gun Crazy (1950), The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), Samson and Delilah (1949) and The Uninvited (1944). He also wrote numerous songs, including 'Stella by Starlight'.
He received 22 Academy Award nominations and won the award for Best Original Score posthumously for Around the World in 80 Days.
