Biography

Winrich Kolbe (1940–2012) was a German-American television director and producer. Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, he began his career in the 1970s at Universal Pictures as an associate producer on series including McCloud before moving into directing.

He directed episodes of numerous series, including The Rockford Files, Magnum, P.I., Knight Rider and Battlestar Galactica. Kolbe is best known for helming 48 episodes across four Star Trek series; these included the Star Trek: The Next Generation finale “All Good Things...”, which received the 1995 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.

He also directed episodes of 24, Star Trek: Voyager (including its pilot) and other programmes. After retiring from directing around 2003, Kolbe taught at the Savannah College of Art and Design until 2007.
