Biography
Anthony Hemingway is an American television and film director and producer. He began working in the industry as a production assistant in the early 1990s and became one of the youngest members of the Directors Guild of America, serving as a second assistant director at age 19 and first assistant director at 22. He worked extensively as an assistant director on series including Oz and The Wire, where he contributed to 23 episodes across the first four seasons.
Hemingway made his directorial debut on The Wire in 2006, helming two episodes. He has since directed episodes of numerous series, including Treme, True Blood, American Horror Story, Shameless, Fringe, Community, Orange Is the New Black, The Purge and Genius: Aretha. His feature directorial debut was the 2012 film Red Tails. As a producer, he contributed to the Emmy-winning American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson (2016), for which he also directed episodes; the series received a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series, a Golden Globe and other awards.
