Biography

Hoyte van Hoytema is a Dutch-Swedish cinematographer. Born on 4 October 1971 in Horgen, Switzerland, to Dutch parents, he studied at the Łódź Film School in Poland and began his career in Sweden.

He is known for his collaborations with director Christopher Nolan on Interstellar (2014), Dunkirk (2017), Tenet (2020), Oppenheimer (2023) and The Odyssey (2026). Other credits include Let the Right One In (2008), The Fighter (2010), Her (2013), Spectre (2015), Ad Astra (2019) and Nope (2022). He frequently works with large-format film, including IMAX.

Van Hoytema has received two Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography, winning for Oppenheimer. He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, the Swedish Society of Cinematographers and the Netherlands Society of Cinematographers.
