Biography

Joel Cox is an American film editor born on 2 April 1942 in Los Angeles, California. He began his career in the mailroom at Warner Bros. in 1961 and later worked as an assistant editor before receiving his first editing credit on Farewell, My Lovely (1975).

Cox is best known for his long collaboration with Clint Eastwood, serving as editor or co-editor on more than thirty films beginning with The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) and continuing through Juror #2 (2024). His credits include Unforgiven (1992), Mystic River (2003), Million Dollar Baby (2004), Gran Torino (2008), American Sniper (2014) and The Mule (2018). He won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Unforgiven.
