Biography

Matthew Libatique is an American cinematographer. He was born on 19 July 1968 in Queens, New York City, and studied at California State University, Fullerton before earning an MFA in cinematography from the AFI Conservatory.

He began his career working on music videos and collaborated early with director Darren Aronofsky on films including Pi (1998) and Requiem for a Dream (2000). Libatique has worked repeatedly with Aronofsky, Bradley Cooper and Spike Lee. His credits include Black Swan (2010), Iron Man (2008), A Star Is Born (2018), Maestro (2023), Caught Stealing (2025) and Is This Thing On? (2025).

He has received Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography for Black Swan, A Star Is Born and Maestro.
