Watch Kristen Bell talking with Adam Brody in Nobody Wants This (2024): she puts an edge on a line, then leaves room for his reply. As Joanne, she can be pointed without making the conversation feel like work. Brody’s Noah responds with an ease that lets the attraction develop without either actor having to underline it. We smiled simply watching them talk, because they seemed interested in each other rather than busy delivering the next good line. It is a good romantic comedy, and their responsiveness is its chief pleasure.
Veronica Mars (2004) established her as a sharp television lead, and that remains a useful starting point for her work. Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) gave her a major film lead; voicing and singing Anna in Frozen (2013) put different demands on her delivery. Then The Good Place (2016–2020) gave her Eleanor Shellstrop, an imperfect lead with room to change. We value that willingness to let a comic heroine have faults. Bell’s quick timing gives her a way to make such women enjoyable company without having to excuse everything they do.
The limitation in Nobody Wants This is how often the writing clears the way for its couple. Joanne is an agnostic podcaster; Noah is a rabbi, but the series gives their religious differences less attention than their attraction. Bell’s knack for keeping an exchange enjoyable helps the romance and makes that easy passage easier to accept. The script could ask more of Joanne, and Bell gives us reason to think she could handle it.
The craft makes much the same choice. Wes Cardino and Adrian Peng Correia’s glossy cinematography, alongside Claire Bennett’s production design, keeps the courtship looking comfortable. The editing team, including Varun Viswanath and Jen Rosenthal, gives the performances space, keeping the dialogue moving without hurrying the attraction. Duncan Blickenstaff’s music supports the gentle mood but adds little that Bell and Brody have not supplied. Start there for Bell’s conversational timing, with the warning that the courtship has fewer obstacles than the premise promises.

Kristen Bell is an American actress and singer. Born on 18 July 1980 in Huntington Woods, Michigan, she studied at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She made her Broadway debut as Becky Thatcher in the musical The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (2001) and appeared in a revival of The Crucible (2002).
Bell's breakthrough came as the title character in the series Veronica Mars (2004–2007), a role she reprised in the 2014 film and 2019 revival. She has voiced Anna in the Frozen films (2013, 2019) and starred as Eleanor Shellstrop in The Good Place (2016–2020). She plays Joanne and serves as an executive producer on the series Nobody Wants This (2024–), earning nominations for a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy Award. She is married to actor Dax Shepard.
