Biography

Marilyn Vance (née Kaye), also credited as Marilyn Vance-Straker, Marilyn Kay Vance and Kay Vance, is an American costume designer. She began her career in television before moving to feature films in the early 1980s.

She is known for her work on John Hughes films including The Breakfast Club (1985), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) and Pretty in Pink (1986), as well as action films such as Die Hard (1988), Predator (1987) and The Untouchables (1987). Her designs for Pretty Woman (1990) include the red off-the-shoulder gown worn by Julia Roberts. Vance was the first woman to design costumes for the action genre.

She received an Academy Award nomination and a BAFTA nomination for The Untouchables, a further BAFTA nomination for Pretty Woman, and a Saturn Award for The Rocketeer (1991). In 2009 she was awarded the Costume Designers Guild Career Achievement Award.
