Biography
Maurice Jarre (also credited as Maurice-Alexis Jarre) was a French composer and conductor of film scores. He was born in Lyon and studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he specialised in percussion.
Jarre composed the score for David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia (1962), the first of several collaborations with the director. He went on to score Doctor Zhivago (1965) and A Passage to India (1984), winning Academy Awards for Best Original Score for all three films. Other notable scores include Witness (1985), Fatal Attraction (1987), Ghost (1990) and Dead Poets Society (1989).
