Biography
Randall Stuart Newman is an American composer, singer-songwriter, pianist and arranger. Born on 28 November 1943 in Los Angeles, California, he comes from an extended family of Hollywood film composers that includes uncles Alfred, Lionel and Emil Newman and cousins Thomas, David and Joey Newman.
Newman began his professional career in the 1960s as a songwriter and recording artist before focusing primarily on film scoring from the 1990s. He has composed the scores and songs for numerous Pixar and Disney films, including all five Toy Story entries (1995–2026), A Bug's Life (1998), Monsters, Inc. (2001), the Cars trilogy (2006–2017) and The Princess and the Frog (2009).
Newman has received two Academy Awards from 22 nominations, three Primetime Emmy Awards and seven Grammy Awards. He was named a Disney Legend in 2007.
