Biography
Wendy Chuck is a costume designer whose credits include The Holdovers (2023) and Lilo & Stitch (2025). She has maintained a long collaboration with director Alexander Payne, serving as costume designer on all but one of his feature films, among them Election (1999), Sideways (2004), About Schmidt (2002), The Descendants (2011), Nebraska (2013) and Downsizing (2017).
Trained in fashion in Australia, Chuck worked as a cutter, fitter and tailor for ABC TV and Opera Australia in Sydney. She spent a decade in London, where her roles included freelance styling, a six-year tenure as costume designer at the BFI’s Museum of the Moving Image and teaching at the City Literary Institute. She later relocated to Los Angeles.
Her other notable credits encompass Twilight (2008), Spotlight (2015), San Andreas (2015) and Bad Santa (2003). In 1994 she received an Australian Film Institute nomination for Country Life; she won a Costume Designers Guild Award for About Schmidt and has earned further CDG nominations.
