Biography
Albert Wolsky (24 November 1930 – 23 May 2026) was a French-born American costume designer. He began his career in the travel industry before switching to costume design at the age of 30. He started in New York theatre, assisting on the original Broadway production of Camelot and later designing his own shows, including a Tony-nominated production of The Heiress.
Wolsky moved into film with The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter (1968) and went on to design costumes for more than 80 features. He collaborated frequently with directors Bob Fosse and Paul Mazursky. His work includes Grease (1978), Manhattan (1979), Sophie's Choice (1982), You've Got Mail (1998) and Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014). He received seven Academy Award nominations for costume design, winning for All That Jazz (1979) and Bugsy (1991).
