Biography
Ken Adam, also credited as Klaus Hugo Adam, was a German-born British production designer. Born in Berlin in 1921, his Jewish family fled Nazi Germany for Britain in 1934. He served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War and later trained as an architect.
Adam worked as a production designer on seven James Bond films from Dr. No (1962) to Moonraker (1979), as well as on Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964). He received Academy Awards for Best Art Direction for Barry Lyndon (1975) and The Madness of King George (1994). He was appointed OBE and knighted for services to film.
