Biography
Lawrence Bender is an American film producer. Born in New York City on 17 October 1957, he graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in civil engineering in 1979. He worked as a ballet dancer before an injury led him to acting and then producing; his first credit was the 1989 film Intruder, which he co-wrote and produced with Sam Raimi.
Bender rose to prominence as producer of Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs (1992). He has since produced several of Tarantino’s films, including Pulp Fiction (1994), Jackie Brown (1997), Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003), Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004) and Inglourious Basterds (2009). Other credits include Good Will Hunting (1997) and the documentary An Inconvenient Truth (2006).
Films produced by Bender have received three Academy Award nominations for Best Picture. He has also produced the documentaries Countdown to Zero (2010) and received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Maine in 2013.
