Biography
Giancarlo Esposito is an American actor and director. Born Giancarlo Giuseppe Alessandro Esposito on 26 April 1958 in Copenhagen, Denmark, he is the son of an Italian stagehand and carpenter and an African-American opera singer. He moved to New York City as a child and studied radio and television communications at Elizabeth Seton College.
Esposito began his career on stage, appearing on Broadway as a child in the 1960s. He is known for his collaborations with Spike Lee in films including School Daze (1988), Do the Right Thing (1989), Mo' Better Blues (1990) and Malcolm X (1992). His television roles include Gus Fring in Breaking Bad (2009–2011) and its prequel Better Call Saul (2017–2022), for which he received multiple Critics' Choice Television Awards and Primetime Emmy Award nominations, as well as Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian (2019–2023) and Stan Edgar in The Boys (2019–present).
Recent film credits include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023), MaXXXine (2024), Abigail (2024) and Megalopolis (2024). He also appears in the series The Residence (2025).
