Biography
John Turturro is an American actor and filmmaker. He was born on 28 February 1957 in Brooklyn, New York City, and trained at the State University of New York at New Paltz and Yale University.
He first gained notice for his role in Five Corners (1987) and appeared in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing (1989). Frequent collaborations followed with the Coen brothers, including Miller’s Crossing (1990), Barton Fink (1991) — for which he won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor — The Big Lebowski (1998) and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000). Other notable film roles include Seymour Simmons in the Transformers series (2007–2017) and Carmine Falcone in The Batman (2022). On television he has played Irving Bailiff in Severance (2022–present) and John Stone in The Night Of (2016), for which he received a Primetime Emmy Award. He has also directed several films, among them Mac (1992).
