Biography
Murray Gold is an English composer for film, television and stage. Born in Portsmouth in 1969, he studied history at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and initially worked in theatre before moving into screen scoring.
Gold is known for his long collaboration with writer and producer Russell T Davies. He composed the music for Davies's series Queer as Folk (1999), Casanova (2004), Years and Years (2019) and It's a Sin (2021). He served as composer and musical director for the revived Doctor Who (2005–2017 and 2023–2025), creating new arrangements of the theme and incidental scores, and also wrote music for the spin-off Torchwood (2006).
His other credits include Vanity Fair (1998), The Devil's Whore (2008) and Gentleman Jack (2019–2022). Gold has received multiple BAFTA nominations for Best Original Television Music.
