Biography

Lee Smith is an Australian film editor. He has worked in the film industry since the 1980s, beginning as a sound editor before moving into picture editing.

His early collaboration with director Peter Weir led to work on films including Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003). He is best known for editing seven films directed by Christopher Nolan: Batman Begins (2005), The Prestige (2006), The Dark Knight (2008), Inception (2010), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Interstellar (2014) and Dunkirk (2017), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing.

More recent credits include 1917 (2019), Empire of Light (2022), Argylle (2024) and Better Man (2024).
