Biography
Lindsay Duncan is a Scottish actress. Born on 7 November 1950 in Edinburgh, she trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and began her career in regional theatre before appearing at the National Theatre and with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
She has received two Olivier Awards, a Tony Award and a CBE for services to drama. Her screen credits include Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Alice in Wonderland (2010), About Time (2013), Birdman (2014) and Gifted (2017). On television she has appeared in Rome (2005–2007), Sherlock (2014–2017) as Lady Smallwood, The Honourable Woman (2014) and The Wheel of Time (2021). She played Alex Cairns in the Black Mirror episode "The National Anthem" (2011) and Mum in the film H Is for Hawk (2025).
Duncan is married to actor Hilton McRae.
