Biography
Michael Kamen was an American composer, arranger, conductor and musician. Born in New York City, he studied oboe at the Juilliard School and formed the New York Rock & Roll Ensemble. He began his career arranging for rock and pop artists including Pink Floyd on The Wall (1979) before moving into film scoring in the mid-1970s.
From the mid-1980s he composed scores for numerous films and television series. His credits include Brazil (1985), the Lethal Weapon and Die Hard franchises, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), The Iron Giant (1999) and X-Men (2000, also credited as Michael K-Men). On television he wrote music for the BBC series Edge of Darkness (1985, in collaboration with Eric Clapton) and the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers (2001). He received four Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Television Award for Edge of Darkness, and two Academy Award nominations.
