Biography
Allison Janney is an American actress. She was born on 19 November 1959 in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from Kenyon College she received a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Janney is known for her role as C. J. Cregg in the NBC series The West Wing (1999–2006), for which she received four Primetime Emmy Awards. Other notable screen credits include Barbara Fitts in American Beauty (1999), Bren MacGuff in Juno (2007), Charlotte Phelan in The Help (2011), and voice roles in the Finding Nemo franchise. She has also appeared as Colonel Howell in the film The Creator (2023) and as President Grace Penn in the series The Diplomat (2023–).
On stage she made her Broadway debut in the 1996 revival of Present Laughter and has received Drama Desk Awards and Tony Award nominations.
