Biography
Dennis Gassner is a production designer born on 22 October 1948 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He is American-Canadian and studied fine arts and architecture at the University of Oregon, followed by filmmaking and advertising design at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
Gassner began his career as a record cover designer and worked on the advertising campaign for Apocalypse Now before joining Francis Ford Coppola’s Zoetrope Studios. He has collaborated frequently with the Coen brothers on films including Miller’s Crossing (1990), Barton Fink (1991), The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) and with Sam Mendes on the James Bond films Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015), as well as 1917 (2019). Other credits include The Grifters (1990), Bugsy (1991), The Truman Show (1998), Big Fish (2003), Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and Into the Woods (2014).
He has received seven Academy Award nominations for Best Production Design and won once, for Bugsy.
