Biography

Jason Blum is an American film and television producer and the founder and CEO of Blumhouse Productions. He established the company in 2000 after working as an executive at Miramax and as a producer with Ethan Hawke’s Malaparte theater company. Blum graduated from Vassar College in 1991.

Blumhouse is known for its low-budget model that grants directors creative control. Blum’s credits include the franchises Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge and Halloween, as well as Whiplash (2014), Get Out (2017), Split (2017), BlacKkKlansman (2018), Us (2019), The Black Phone (2021), Five Nights at Freddy's (2023), Speak No Evil (2024) and Insidious: The Red Door (2023). He has also produced Black Phone 2 (2025) and Wolf Man (2025).

Blum received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture for Whiplash, Get Out and BlacKkKlansman. He won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie for The Normal Heart (2014) and for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series for The Jinx (2015).
