Biography
Robert Richardson, ASC (also credited as Bob Richardson) is an American cinematographer born on 27 August 1955 in Hyannis, Massachusetts. He graduated with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the AFI Conservatory.
Richardson began his career shooting television documentaries and working as a camera operator and second-unit cinematographer before collaborating with director Oliver Stone on Salvador (1986) and Platoon (1986). He has since worked extensively with Stone, Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, serving as director of photography on films including JFK (1991), Casino (1995), Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) and Vol. 2 (2004), The Aviator (2004), Inglourious Basterds (2009), Shutter Island (2010), Hugo (2011), Django Unchained (2012), The Hateful Eight (2015) and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019).
He won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for JFK, The Aviator and Hugo, and received the ASC Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. Recent credits include Air (2023) and The Equalizer 3 (2023).
