Biography
Ridley Scott is an English film director and producer. He was born on 30 November 1937 in South Shields, County Durham (now Tyne and Wear), England. He studied at the Royal College of Art in London and began his career in television as a designer and director before directing commercials.
Scott made his feature directorial debut with The Duellists (1977). He is known for directing Alien (1979), Blade Runner (1982), Gladiator (2000), Prometheus (2012), The Martian (2015), Napoleon (2023) and Gladiator II (2024). He has also produced films including Alien: Romulus (2024) and A Haunting in Venice (2023).
Scott was knighted in 2003 and appointed Knight Grand Cross in 2024. He received the BAFTA Fellowship for Lifetime Achievement in 2018.
