Biography

Colleen Atwood is an American costume designer. She studied painting at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle and began her career as a fashion advisor before moving to New York in the early 1980s. Her film work started with a production assistant role on Ragtime (1981), leading to assistant costume designer positions and her first solo credit on Firstborn (1984).

Atwood has collaborated extensively with directors including Tim Burton (beginning with Edward Scissorhands in 1990), Rob Marshall and Jonathan Demme. She has received twelve Academy Award nominations for Best Costume Design, winning for Chicago (2002), Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016). She was named a Disney Legend in 2024.

Her recent credits include costume design on the Netflix series Wednesday (2022), The Little Mermaid (2023), Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) and One Battle After Another (2025).
