Biography

Michael Fassbender is a German-Irish actor. He was born on 2 April 1977 in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, West Germany, and raised in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland. He trained at the Drama Centre London.

Fassbender first came to prominence with his role as Bobby Sands in Hunger (2008). He appeared as Lt. Archie Hicox in Inglourious Basterds (2009), Paul in Haywire (2011), David in Prometheus (2012), Edwin Epps in 12 Years a Slave (2013), and Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto in several X-Men films. He won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor for Shame (2011) and received Academy Award nominations for 12 Years a Slave (2013) and Steve Jobs (2015).

After an eight-year hiatus from acting during which he competed in auto racing, Fassbender returned with roles as The Killer in The Killer (2023), Thomas Rongen in Next Goal Wins (2023), Arló in Kneecap (2024), and George Woodhouse in Black Bag (2025).
