Biography

Hal B. Wallis was an American film producer. Born in Chicago, he began his career managing a theatre before joining Warner Bros. publicity department in 1923. He advanced to head of production and oversaw films including The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), The Maltese Falcon (1941) and Casablanca (1942).

Wallis left Warner Bros. in 1944 to work as an independent producer. His later credits include Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), Barefoot in the Park (1967) and True Grit (1969). He received the Academy Award for Best Picture for Casablanca and was twice awarded the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
