Biography
Sir Roger Alexander Deakins is an English cinematographer. He was born on 24 May 1949 in Torquay, Devon, and studied at Bath Academy of Art and the National Film School.
Deakins has worked as director of photography on Barton Fink (1991), The Hudsucker Proxy (1994), The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and Skyfall (2012). He has collaborated repeatedly with the Coen brothers, Sam Mendes and Denis Villeneuve. His credits also include Fargo (1996), No Country for Old Men (2007), Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and 1917 (2019).
Deakins has received two Academy Awards for Best Cinematography and five BAFTA Awards for Best Cinematography. He is a member of the British Society of Cinematographers and the American Society of Cinematographers. He was appointed CBE in 2013 and knighted in the 2021 New Year Honours.
