Biography

Thomas Newman is an American composer, conductor and orchestrator. Born on 20 October 1955 in Los Angeles, he has composed scores for numerous films and television series over four decades.

His film work includes Erin Brockovich (2000), Side Effects (2013), Skyfall (2012), Let Them All Talk (2020), Elemental (2023) and The Thursday Murder Club (2025). He is also known for scores such as The Shawshank Redemption (1994), American Beauty (1999), Finding Nemo (2003), WALL·E (2008) and 1917 (2019). Newman has received six Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, two BAFTA Film Awards and 15 Academy Award nominations.

He has collaborated frequently with directors including Sam Mendes and Steven Soderbergh. In television, he composed for Six Feet Under and co-composed the 2024 series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story with his daughter Julia Newman.
