Biography
Jerry Goldsmith was an American composer and conductor of film and television scores. Born Jerrald King Goldsmith, he also worked under the names Jerrald King Goldsmith and others. He studied piano with Jakob Gimpel and composition with Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
Goldsmith began his career scoring television series in the 1950s and 1960s before moving to feature films. He composed the music for The Mummy (1999), as well as scores including Alien (1979), First Blood (1982), Gremlins (1984), Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), L.A. Confidential (1997) and Mulan (1998). He received eighteen Academy Award nominations and won one, for The Omen (1976).
