Biography
Adam Somner (1967–2024) was a British assistant director and film producer. He began working as an assistant director in the 1980s and later took on producing roles, frequently collaborating with directors including Paul Thomas Anderson, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott and Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Somner served as producer on Anderson’s Licorice Pizza (2021), which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. He was also a producer on One Battle After Another (2025), his final credit; the film is dedicated to his memory and won the Academy Award for Best Picture posthumously for Somner. He worked as first or second assistant director on numerous films including Gladiator (2000), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014), The Revenant (2015) and Ford v Ferrari (2019).
Somner was born in London on 21 March 1967 and died from anaplastic thyroid cancer in Studio City, Los Angeles, on 27 November 2024.
