Biography

John Williams is an American composer and conductor. Born John Towner Williams on 8 February 1932 in Queens, New York City, he has worked in film since the 1960s.

He is known for scores including Fiddler on the Roof (1971), Jaws (1975), Star Wars (1977), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Schindler's List (1993), Saving Private Ryan (1998), the Indiana Jones films (1981–2023) and the first three Harry Potter films (2001–2004). He has collaborated extensively with directors Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.

Williams has received five Academy Awards for Best Original Score and a total of 54 nominations, along with multiple Grammy, BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe awards.
